Dear Parents, Hey there! Welcome to the June newsletter! As we embrace the upcoming summer season, I'm thrilled to share some valuable insights and tips to help you navigate the unique stages of your baby's development between 6 and 12 months. This period is filled with incredible milestones and new adventures for both you and your little one. Feeding and Nutrition: Finding What Works for YouLots of nursing parents switch their babies to formula between 6 and 9 months. Just remember, it's all about doing what feels best for you and your baby. If you're thinking about weaning and feeling a bit lost, reaching out to a lactation consultant can really help make the process easier and create a plan that's just right for you. And if you're not sure if now is the right time, I'm here to chat with you about it! Just a friendly reminder that babies need milk or formula until they are 12 months old. Even though 6 months old is a common time to introduce your baby to solids, there's no rush if you or your baby isn't ready. You can offer purees or try baby-led weaning, but remember that solid foods should just be an addition to their diet. Babies love trying new flavors, and it might take them up to 20 tries to decide if they like a particular food. This time is more about social interaction around food, eye-hand coordination, and so much more! By 9-10 months, your baby might be ready for a real meal once or twice a day, with the amount of food gradually increasing as their appetite increases and their milk intake decreases. If you're curious about baby-led weaning, I have a book recommendation on my Favorites Page that can be super helpful. Sleep Patterns: Finding Restful NightsAround 6 months, many babies are ready to start sleeping through the night. Some do this on their own, while others need a little help. If you're facing challenges with this, don't hesitate to reach out—I'm here to help, not judge you on how you go there. Click below for a free chat to see how we can get you more sleep! By 9 months, babies often drop a nap and may go to bed earlier so they don't get too overtired for bedtime. This transition can be hit or miss for a few weeks, but should settle down! Ensuring a consistent sleep routine can support these transitions and help your baby get the rest they need. Movement and Milestones: On the Move!Such an exciting time to see your baby as they learn to be on the move, from crawling to taking those first wobbly steps, and they'll be so eager to explore. It's important to encourage their curiosity and make sure they have a safe environment to practice their new skills. You might see them pulling up to stand or cruising around furniture, which is all helping them get ready for walking. To keep them safe, you can play a little game teaching them to fall on their bottoms after pulling themselves up. This will help them stay safe, especially if they decide to practice in the middle of the night (totally normal!). Oh, and have you lowered the mattress yet? If your baby isn't doing these things yet, don't worry! Every baby develops at their own pace, so celebrate every little achievement and be patient with their progress.
